We are New Yorkers!!! We have finally gotten moved and semi-settled into our new apartment on West 24th Street. This past week and 1/2 has been a total blur! It started with our road trip which was SO MUCH FUN. I learned an important road trip rule from my best friends, Olivia and Rita, who recently drove cross country to San Francisco: It is crucial to have a trip anthem which you must BLAST when you cross every state line. Appropriately, we chose a Jay-Z song (“Run This Town”) since we were in route to NYC! We sang it at the top of our lungs (while I vigorously shook a bell shaker) every time our Penske truck- nicknamed the “Yellowhammer”- made it to another state line! We also had an intense murder mystery on CD that was very entertaining, constant coffee, candy, and lots of great gas station food.
We arrived in New Jersey on Tuesday, still unsure if we even had an apartment. On Wednesday afternoon, we got on the train and headed into Manhattan to interview with the board of our apartment building. The interview was a piece of cake and lasted only 15 minutes. They asked us a few standard questions and then said “Welcome to Chelsea!” I am so glad we did not spend $1000.00 on plane tickets just for that! They said it may be a week before we would be able to move in…I called the superintendent of our apartment building and somehow managed to talk him into letting us move in the next day. Our broker said in his 20 years of working in this business, he has never seen or heard of anyone moving into their apartment the day after an interview. I am thankful we were able to be an exception because living out of a moving truck for a week in NY would have been miserable and expensive!
My mom and dad flew in the next day to help us get settled into our new home. Carolyn, the sweet owner of our apartment, has done a LOT of work to the place since we had last seen it…it really looks great! My mom is the queen or organization (I wonder why I didn’t get that trait??) and she has been helping us find a use for every little space. I absolutely love our home and especially love our neighborhood. It just feels so right for us. Our apartment is a short walk from the river and the Chelsea Piers- and it is surrounded by tons of unique shops, galleries, and restaurants. Another great thing…The Chelsea Flea Market is held every weekend, one street over from our apartment!!! I can not wait to start exploring!
