The wonderful cool air is starting to hit NYC, and it’s time to start thinking about a new coat! The outerwear trend I have been observing lately is an oversized, menswear inspired look – which I particularly love because I am drawn to the balance of masculine meets feminine. And balance is key, in my opinion. If you feel that this style is too frumpy for you, try one in a vibrant color or pair it with skinny jeans, slim trousers, a feminine dress, skirt, high heels, or even belt it.

There are two styles I am seeing everywhere…One look is tailored but voluminous all over (really like you are wearing a boyfriend’s big comfy coat coat) and the other is a long oversized blazer.

I like to look at the cuts and details of the extremely well made pieces and keep that in mind when I am looking for one that I can actually afford. Although, if you are going to choose an item to invest in, a coat is a great one. You always hear about women wearing their mother and grandmother’s coat…If properly taken care of, it is something that will last for a very long time.
