The Year’s Brightest Stars

Mario Sorrenti shot a photo series for W Magazine of the actors who gave the year’s best performances. My favorites of the series are the shots of the women who had their breakout role this year. How amazing for these women’s hard word to pay off and their dreams come true. Sidenote- Octavia Spencer from The Help is from Montgomery, Alabama! I love seeing people from Alabama doing big things- AWESOME!

See the full list of actors and movies here. I can’t wait to see all of these films…dying to see My Week With Marilyn, The Descendants, and Drive!

Lots of other great photos in the series…I really, really love this one of Brad Pitt. He was incredible in Moneyball –  a must see!

I’m pretty sure all the movies in the list are a must see…

Little Cindy

My jaw dropped when I saw this photo of Cindy Crawford’s 10 year old daughter, Kaya, the new face of the children’s Versace line. Kaya looks JUST like her mother! I had to look at the photograph over and over to be sure it wasn’t an old picture of Cindy, who was a muse to Gianni Versace. Beautiful little girl! Definitely not your typical 10 year old…

Teavana Perfect Tea Maker…the best 20 dollars I ever spent!

My best friend MC introduced me to this product and claimed it’s the easiest way to make the perfect cup of tea. She was so right. It makes the perfect cup and there’s no way it could be simpler.

I know that tea bags are typically more accessible, but I find that loose tea is much more satisfying. All you do is put the loose tea in the tea maker, let it steep, and then put the teavana on top of your mug and your tea will pour out. You can kind of see how it works from the second picture. Trust me, if you are a tea lover, you will be all about this thing!  There is a larger size if you are interested in making tea for more than one person.

When you lift the tea maker off of your mug, it automatically stops pouring.

For night time, here are a couple of teas that I’m into at the moment…a very low caffeine chocolate mint tea -also something introduced to me by MC- that tricks you into thinking you are getting dessert and an Aveda comforting tea that is very soothing and perfect to drink before bed. For other teas, I suggest going to a local tea shop and sniffing around until you find something your senses react to. I love going to McNulty’s Tea shop in the West Village, but I plan on exploring some others when I get back to the city. If there is a certain tea that any of you love, please let me know – I’d love to try it!

My GG Hair and Makeup Picks

You just can’t beat Kate Beckinsale’s glow…absolutely luminous. Her hair looks awesome, too!

Reece Witherspoon looks so pretty and carefree. I love that she looks so great without looking like she’s trying too hard. Her undone hair is perfect!

I’m never one to leave Angelina out! Her red lip last night was spot on.

Julianne Moore’s gorgeous red hair looks incredible with the emerald color accessories.

Never have I ever seen someone pull of a pixie cut the way Michelle Williams does. Stunning!

I mentioned this in my previous post, but I think Nicole Richie’s hair was a lot of fun last night…I loved seeing her mix things up.

Salma Hayek also had a beautiful glow to her. Her wavy hombre hair and fresh makeup look amazing!

Now, if only I was a makeup artist or hairstylist and could tell you how to recreate these looks…you’ll have to ask my friends Chaney or Reagan for help on that!

Favorites from the Globes

There were so many looks that I wanted to love this year, but there were only a few I was really feeling head to toe. And I looked back at my favorites from last year and I totally take back two of my choices – Catherine and Olivia- so I’m being more picky this year. There were a lot of women that I thought looked amazing, but I just couldn’t get on board with their look as a whole.

However, wouldn’t change a thing on these three…

Clare Danes in J.Mendel / Hair, lips, graphic black and white, the elegant neckline, the BACK!!! She looks fabulous.

Angeline Jolie in Atelier Versace / I thought she looked like the epitome of a movie star. At first, I didn’t want to like this look because I thought she looked a little severe. The light skin, extremely thin frame, red lips, slicked back hair…But then again, anyone that looks like Angelina is always going to look severe and maybe, striking, is a better word. The more I looked at her, the more perfect I decided she was. She looks like a piece of art, head to toe. And the dashes of red were just phenomenal.

Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackerman /  Some of you are probably thinking this pick is totally out there, but the lavender color with her hair and skin is just unbelievable. At 51 years old, the choice was incredibly age appropriate and the tailoring of the jacket is perfection. Someone as tall as she can pull this off with ease. If there was one person from last night that I wish Miller and I could have stolen away for a portrait session, it would have been Tilda for sure. Miller and I saw her at the Bowery Hotel last month, and she is a VISION. I still think she looks like our friend Charles that we photographed a few months ago.

My honorable mentions…I’m taking this WAY too seriously!

Nicole Richie in Julien MacDonald / She looked really fun, young, healthy, and I loved her hair!

Salma Hayek in Gucci / She’s 45. Enough said. I’m not blown away by the dress but the art deco-ish gold looks great on her and works perfectly with her hair and makeup.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture / The slit, the deep V, the brooch, the big bow, AND the sparkly headband…it’s a bit much for me. But, she looks incredibly glamorous. I wish she wouldn’t have worn the headband…

Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci / I think this simple black dress works so well on her, and I love the cutouts.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi / I just couldn’t leave her out! I’m so happy she won. And she picked such a flattering dress and color- she looked really pretty.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang / This dress looks great on her, but it was such a predictable choice. Of course she wore a strapless, tight, mermaid dress…feel like I’ve seen her in something like this before. She definitely knows what works for her body type, but it would be nice to see her change it up!

My most stunning couple awards go to Stacy and George and Diane and Josh!

And I wanted to love Emma Stone’s Lanvin dress, but I’m still undecided. Love the color and the whole two tone thing…that seemed to be a running trend for the night.

I also wanted to love Heidi Klum’s simple Calvin Klein dress, but I wish she would have gone with something other than turquoise for the accessories…turquoise is so easy and predictable. She looks great, but I think it could have been better!

That wraps up my list! Is there anyone ya’ll think I left out??

Weekend Roundup

So this week in New Orleans was one I will never ever forget! I had the greatest time exploring the city with most of my friends and family. For those who weren’t there, you were missed very much! Of course the best part was Alabama defeating LSU and winning the BCS National Championship. I never thought my little brother, Brad,  would win two National Championships…I am blown away and so so proud of him and his team!

Brad during the game

After the game with the trophy

Most of my family celebrating after the win!

Here are a few of the pictures from the week. We basically did everything that was posted in my Nola blog post and like I said, it is a no fail fun guide. And New Orleans without a doubt has some of the best food in the world so I was in heaven!

In other news, Miller and I have been so craaazy busy with shooting that this past month has been a whirlwind. Miller had to miss the game for a photo shoot in New York and then flew straight to New Orleans to meet me for a shoot there this past Thursday. Then we headed to Mobile for another shoot and then one more in Alabama on Monday. I have not been in NYC for the past 30 days and I miss it SOOOO much. We go back on Wednesday, and I can not wait…get chills thinking about it!

Here are a few recent photos Miller has taken…this one was for Italy’s Economy magazine, and there are some other really great ones from this shoot that I can’t post because they are on our computer in New York. We were sent to photograph the three guys running the show at New York’s Eataly, and the main reason it was such an amazing shoot because we now have three new friends- these guys are AWESOME. One is missing from this photo, but I will post more later. If you haven’t been to Eataly, you must go check it out. It is a food lover’s heaven and you will get the best customer service- and that’s something I saw even before I knew these guys. Anyways, go check this place out!

This is a shot of a magician, Marco Tempest, for Wired UK. Behind the scenes for this shoot was crazy- wish I had pictures! I was throwing bread and fries to the birds for an hour, and people were walking down the Coney Island boardwalk looking at us like we were crazy.

This is a shot of a friend of our’s from Tuscaloosa, Bony Barrineau. I LOVE this portrait!

There’s so much other exciting work from Miller coming out soon that I can’t wait to show you. The other most exciting thing going on in our lives is that my best friend, Olivia, is moving to New York City in two weeks!!! I can not even begin to explain my happiness!!! Olivia, can’t wait to throw you a welcome to NYC  party…Sam, we need to get on that!

Olivia and I last week in New Orleans

So back to New York on Wednesday and we only have 5 days to soak it up! After that we leave for a 2 week shoot in Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas, Orlando, and Naples. Even though things are crazy right now, we feel so blessed to be getting this much work.

That was way to much info to cram into one post…Holla!!!

One Really Cool Ninety Year Old

I posted Iris Apfel’s Into The Gloss interview on my Facebook wall the other day, but I’m not sure if many people read it so I wanted to post it again. Iris gives her straightforward beauty tips/routines, and I find it so inspiring how simple and funny she is. She seems to have the best outlook on physical beauty. I think her humor is the most beautiful thing about her. Anyway, it’s nice to hear from someone older, wiser, and funnier than I am so check out the full article here! And this is one of my favorite paragraphs…
